Documentation

Linkmintly has two kinds of links, on two separate domains:

  • Short links, like https://l.linkmintly.click/tet-sale (or on your own domain once it is connected), which redirect to a destination you saved. They are for sharing: social posts, messages, email, QR codes.
  • Tracking links for Google Ads, like https://go.linkmintly.click/t/KEY?url=…, which always redirect to the value of the url parameter. go.linkmintly.click serves nothing else.

Do not use short links as ad URLs in Google Ads. In your ads, keep your landing page as the final URL and add our tracking template.

Create a link

  1. In your dashboard, open Links and paste the full destination URL, starting with https://.
  2. Choose the domain and, if you like, a back-half: letters, numbers, - and _, up to 64 characters. Back-halves are not case-sensitive, so /Tet-Sale and /tet-sale are the same link. Leave it empty and we generate 7 characters without look-alikes (no 0, O, 1, l or I).
  3. Optionally add a title, a campaign, an expiry date and UTM parameters, then press Create link. The link works immediately.

A few back-halves are reserved for the service, such as t, admin or api.

Public preview

Add + to the end of any short link, for example https://l.linkmintly.click/tet-sale+. The preview page shows, to anyone and without logging in:

  • the full current destination, with its host in bold;
  • whether the link is active, paused, expired or disabled;
  • when the link was created and when its destination was last set;
  • the link's QR code and a link to report abuse.

The preview always reads the destination at the moment you open it. If the owner changes the destination, the preview changes with it.

Custom domain

Use a subdomain of your website, such as go.yourbrand.com. In Domains, add the domain and create these two records at your DNS provider:

TypeNameValue
TXT_linkmintly.go.yourbrand.comlinkmintly-verify=… (shown in your dashboard)
CNAMEgo.yourbrand.comcname.linkmintly.click

Then press Check DNS. The TXT record proves the domain is yours: until it is found, nothing is served on the domain, and only one account can verify a domain. The CNAME sends visitors to us. HTTPS on custom domains is enabled on request: once your domain is verified, our team contacts you to set it up, and links on the domain start working after that.

On a custom domain, tracking links (?url=) may only lead back to the domain owner's own site: go.yourbrand.com/?url=https://yourbrand.com/… works, while any other destination gets a 403. This follows Google's example of an advertiser subdomain pointing to a click tracker.

QR codes

Each link page shows a QR code of the short link and a Download SVG button. Codes are black on white with the standard quiet zone and medium error correction, so they print well at any size. Because the code holds the short link, changing the destination never requires a new print.

UTM parameters and campaigns

When you create a link you can fill utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content. They are appended to the destination URL you save, so they are visible in the preview. Parameters already in your URL are never overwritten.

Campaigns group links. Filter the link list and analytics by campaign; deleting a campaign keeps its links.

Pause and expiry

You can pause a link or give it an expiry date (it stops at the end of that day, in your time zone). A paused or expired link answers 410 with a short notice instead of redirecting. The preview keeps working.

Analytics

For each link, each campaign and your whole account: clicks per day (7 or 30 days, in your time zone), unique visitors, country, device, browser, operating system and referring site, plus CSV export.

  • We do not store IP addresses or full user agents. Country comes from our network provider; unique visitors are counted with a keyed hash of the day, IP address and browser that changes every day and cannot be reversed.
  • We keep only the host of the referring page (for example facebook.com), never its full address.
  • Bots and link previews (Google, Facebook, Slack, uptime monitors...) are redirected exactly like everyone else, but counted separately so they do not inflate your numbers.
  • Click data is kept for 90 days.

Transparent redirect

These rules apply to every link we serve and cannot be changed by customers:

  • One fixed destination per short link. Only the owner, logged in to their account, can change it. Each change is stored in the link's history and the preview always shows the current destination.
  • A single 302 to that destination. The query string of the request is appended character for character, so gclid, gad_source, utm_* and any other parameter reach the destination unchanged. We add nothing to short links.
  • The tracking domain go.linkmintly.click only follows the visible url parameter, on every path. It stores no destinations and serves no short links: its home page explains the tracker, and any other request without url gets 404. The short link domain l.linkmintly.click never acts as a tracker: a request there with a url parameter gets 400 instead of being sent to a saved destination.
  • No cloaking. The destination never depends on the visitor's country, device, browser, IP address or whether they look like a bot.
  • No referrer changes. Redirect responses carry no Referrer-Policy header and no intermediate page.
  • Refusals are explicit. Invalid destinations get 400, blocked ones 403, and neither is ever redirected somewhere else.

In Google Ads in your dashboard you find your template, with your account key filled in:

https://go.linkmintly.click/t/YOUR_KEY?gclid={gclid}&campaignid={campaignid}&adgroupid={adgroupid}&keyword={keyword}&device={device}&network={network}&url={lpurl}

Paste it under Admin › Account settings › Tracking › Tracking template, or at campaign or ad group level. Google replaces {lpurl} with your final URL, URL-encoded.

  • The next hop is always the value of url, on every path of go.linkmintly.click. No destination is configured on our side for tracking links.
  • The final URL is kept exactly as Google sent it, including nested tracker URLs and unexpanded macros.
  • We append one non-foreign parameter, lmclid (our click ID, 16 URL-safe characters), before any #fragment. It is the only parameter we ever add. Other parameters of the tracking URL (gclid, keyword...) are recorded for your reports and are not copied to the destination.
  • The key in /t/KEY only tells us which account the click belongs to. Unknown keys redirect the same way; we just do not record anything about the visitor.
  • Parallel tracking is supported: clicks sent by the browser in the background (including POST) are handled the same way.

You can also build a single tracking URL for one landing page in Google Ads › Build a tracking URL.

Short links on l.linkmintly.click or your own domain are not ad URLs: keep them for social posts, messages, email and QR codes.

Abuse prevention

  • Destinations must be absolute http/https URLs; links to bare IP addresses, private networks, other URL shorteners or our own domains are refused.
  • Destinations on our blocklist are refused when you create a link and blocked at redirect time, including links created before the host was blocked.
  • Accounts are limited in how fast they can create links.
  • Report a harmful link from its preview page or by email to abuse@linkmintly.click. We review reports and disable links, domains or accounts that break our acceptable use policy.
